I tuned in post-HIMYM just in time to see whatshisname the Chairman from Iron Chef America, who was my prior-to-seeing-anything pick. Glad to see him paired with Lacey too, that should be fun. His number was a tad painful (really, "Kung Fu Fighting"?) but he shows promise. Like early-season Helio Castroneves.

Then some guy I don't know. Then Donny Osmond. Judges' scores notwithstanding I think he has a bit of a massive advantage with the voting pool. We got about two seconds into his number before we had to just switch to a previous performance of his that's much more entertaining to me. Good times.

Is it time for Big Bang Theory yet? I feel bad because I do like dancing, I just don't feel so much like watching DWTS this season. Not sure how I feel about another season of SYTYCD so soon after the last one (I sort of feel like it cheats Jeanine a little but mostly because Nigel was really starting to piss me off by the end of last season and I may need a longer break from him) but they're still in auditions, which I hate to watch so by the time they get to the actual dancing I might feel better. But it's entertaining enough to kill time before Castle (need. Fillion fix. now.)

I spent the last two days, in between naps, catching up on Bones, Dollhouse, and Chuck. I rather wonder if getting attached to THREE SHOWS on the chopping block (Dollhouse, Chuck, and Castle) might be a bad idea... but they're all on different networks, so it's not zero-sum among them so maybe there's a teeeeny teeeeeeeeny tiiiny tiiiiiiny chance?

anyway. obviously massive spoilers ahead, but see last weeks episode NOW then come back. And bring pie. )

Am I the only one who thinks the "Hungry" in the Weight Watchers commercials is cool? He's all orange and muppety and furry, and he brings you cake and donuts! I'd love to have one of those! Why is everyone so mean to him?

So it seems my current top two favorite shows are both crime procedurals with women in lead roles. I've been watching Bones for a while (thanks, Penguin), and I kind of accidentally started watching Castle earlier this season as it aired right after Dancing With the Stars (now it's separated by half an hour of painful Bob Saget sitcom unfunniness, but I persevere).

Now, one could easily attribute my interest to the presence of jossverse types in the leading male roles of both (note to Andrea: David Boreanaz actually gets to have a personality on Bones ;). Or to my early-formed love of stories with prolonged sexual tension (Moonlighting reruns used to play right when I got home from high school, good times-- except for the last season, but we'll pretend that never happened). But that doesn't change the fact that I find myself back into procedurals, where I haven't been since my Law & Order phase in college. With the added bonus of Emily Deschanel and Stana Katic, who are both awesome. Sure, they're both on the humorless side (Sal and I had a lengthy conversation about why women are so often straightmen-- is there a gender-neutral term for that?-- but that's for another day) but they're also hypercompetent and supersmart and not entirely without humor (one of my favorite scenes form Bones has Dr. Brennan entertaining a baby by wiggling her fingers and saying "phalanges!"). Which I enjoy. And after years of Star Wars fandom, the tough-as-nails thing doesn't bother me too much.

Yes, I want both couples to (eventually, far in the future so as to not ruin the show too early) ride off into the sunset. I do have that little bit of romanticism-- I just love to see the bantering buddies get together. Probably because all my relationships have been more or less like that (particularly the nonrelationships in high school)-- not a whole lot of flower-bringing date-having in my history-- so I guess I probably relate more to this sort of thing.

My point is, both shows are definitely worth watching. At least I think that was my point. Hooray for superficial blogging! I forgot how much I like pickles!
