i have the traditional year-end meme thingy just about ready to post (its all annotated and stuff, since i have the mad html skillz and the mad free time), but just wanted to post in the last few minutes of 2006.
first of all, im already tired of 2007. that seems like a bad thing. but again, as with 2006, nothing of terrible import will be happening. i will not graduate, though at least quals is safely in my past. with some luck, i should at least have a paper in press by this time next year, so i suppose thats something to hope for.
i dunno. im not in a terribly good place mentally, as ive alluded to before. hopefully there's nowhere to go but up from here on that front though, and my doctor says she's hopeful, so we'll see. might have to be pharmaceuticals involved, thats part of the resolution to get my brain straightened out.
things seem more or less okay right now though. dad and his mom are downstairs watching tv (last thing i heard: "very well, give him cake too!" they're watching eddie izzard dress to kill on bbc america). mom and sal are in the middle of "tonight i'm gonna rock you tonight" on guitar hero II. this is my kind of new year's party. i dont understand where i got such great family, or why i deserve it. or why i tend to fuck it up more often than not.
now im moping again. things to look forward to in 2007? well, hopefully another fun weekend at pax with joe and company. definitely want to try to hit the san diego comic con this year, with some luck i might even get to see the cast of heroes, or with more luck... joss! what else... oh, the marvel zombies/army of darkness crossover comics. and while im on that subject, joss finishes up with astonishing xmen this year (assuming their publication schedule isnt as horribly delayed as last year's), then starts writing on runaways in 2007, as well as buffy season 8. oh, and y the last man will be wrapping up (i hope yorick ends up with beth!). any good movies? tmnt will at least be fun (i think i read that sarah michelle gellar is voicing april o'neil). sal's keyed up about spiderman 3 (though im pretty sure venom = double angst, but we'll see). we seem a bit short on weddings next year (at least compared to the number we had this year!), but thats okay, maybe i'll get some work done. super mario galaxy should be fun, and i think there's supposed to be a wario ware game for the wii. we're also toying with the idea of moving into an unfurnished apartment in our building, so we can get some decent furniture, which would be stressful but kind of satisfying (also including a real mattress!).
thats a pretty good crop. i feel a little better. though ive had death cab's "new year" stuck in my head all day... "so this is the new year... i dont feel any different...."
tomorrow ill post the quiz, assuming i remember in the frenzy of balderdash and christmas cleanup. but in case i forget to say it, happy new year to everyone-- i hope 2006 leaves you with good memories, and 2007 greets you with the promise of more.

meme from shauna.... going through my archive, posting the first sentence of the first entry of each month.
january: happy 2006, everyone!
february: hmm, i'm almost highly literate according to lloyd's scale, based on the fact that ive read at least parts of 26 of the books listed on the 100 best first lines list.
march: another memory stirred by a song. (watching catch me if you can and remembering the hollywood bowl jon williams concert)
april: did an interesting thing today. (went to the caltech prefrosh reception for the stanford area)
may: a little less than 5 hours to go. (turned in quals paper)
june: ive been very bitter lately. (dealing with death and faith)
july: wow. that was the most fun i've had in a looooong time. (daniel and lena's wedding)
august: when i started outlining this in my head, it broke into several topics. (ranting about comic book culture)
september: today's top 10: songs from movies!
october: first of all, this is currently the most fun you can have on the internet.
november: its finally november, which means thanksgiving is soon, which means christmas is soonish.
december: i have GOT to find me one of these.
