I learned from Garrison Keillor this morning (I do enjoy my morning "Writer's Almanac" podcast") that today is the 50th anniversary of The Day the Music Died.

Sing accordingly.

Apparently people have been feeding vocal tracks from classic songs into Microsoft's Songsmith. With hilarious results. Below is my personal favorite so far, but there are ten beauts here that you should definitely not miss.

So. More or less irritating/earwormy than the Eminiem/Benny Hill mashup? You be the judge ;)

today itunes began to play "warning" by green day, and i realized that the bass line is almost exactly the same as that of "picture book" by the kinks (the song in the hp commericials, if you're not familiar). i suppose its not exactly the same, since that would be plagiarism-- though i wouldnt have been surprised if the kinks were cool with green day sampling them. in fact, that might actually be cooler than just having similar lines. i mean, its not surprising i suppose for a band like green day to be influenced by a band like the kinks.
