depressing post of the day
okay, i probably take this more personally, as both a feminist and a superhero geek (not to mention a pretty big fan of wonder woman in particular), this makes me want to cry. (the subject that the post is lamenting, not the lament itself, just to be clear.) sometimes i hate the world.

i swear i've got two moderately non-depressing posts on deck, but the problem is that i'm meeting with my thesis committee on tuesday, so i'm a bit buried in 8 months worth of data and powerpoint slides. too bad complaining posts are shorter than happy posts :p

ETA: thank goodness other people are more articulate than me (and thanks to the wonderful women at when fangirls attack! lisa fortuner has a great post up about what exactly is so very wrong about this.

ETA2v2: it's been astutely pointed out at pink raygun that the playboy cover seems a bit familiar (a bit nsfw, but hover over the first picture for explanantion). damn you frank miller!

There... there are no words.

Though I love how a woman in body paint and liquid latex is apprently representative of "American sensuality". I have a sneaking feeling that most of the wankstains who read Playboy (for the articles!!1!) would shit themselves if actually approached by a woman clad thusly.

Sorr if the last post came across as a bit snippy

"That a successful woman is only acceptable to many people if she is also sexually attractive is annoying enough. That sexual attractiveness trumps everything to a number of people is infuriating."

I have some issues with this...it's not that I disagree, necessarily, but think a lot of that is natural and unconscious. We always respond better to people who are attractive, not just physically, but overall. It's charisma. Just like in DnD. ;)

Oh, and on the familiarity of the picture thing...I think that's more because miller's 'art' was echoing a pin-up stereotype, rather than the other way around.

I wonder how long it'll be before there are posts by trolls about how the people complaining about this are just jealous over how much better looking the playboy cover girl is...?

And... youch, modern day Lynda Carter? And she's just some reality TV winner or whatever?

Meh. That's no Wonder Woman, or Lynda Carter. Lynda actually wore decent practical shoes, for starters...
